Update on Recent Seminars and Events in the Japan District

Up until recently, the BICSI Japan District had maintained a busy schedule and has been bringing a lot of ICT knowledge and awareness to members and associates. However, due to the recent pandemic, things have changed drastically.

Due to the influence of COVID-19, all events scheduled in Japan, including the 2020 Olympic Games, have been canceled throughout the country. At this stage, there is no prospect as of when the current situation will end, and it is unclear when we can start activities again. BICSI Japan has also canceled all events.

Meanwhile, the BICSI Japan District is steadily preparing for the conference to be held in November, as we believe the virus issue should be over by then. Despite the current pessimistic situation, we are welcoming the opportunity to discuss taking up some new challenges. One challenge is to make the schedule completely online and to replace cancelled events by online seminars. Although the future is uncertain, we continue to prepare for a return to normal times.

In addition, the translation of ANSI/BICSI 002-2019 into Japanese, has occurred and has been selling well. BICSI Japan is also working on translating the BICSI 009-2019, Essentials of Data Center Projects (EDCP), 1st edition, as well as the Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual, 14th Edition and have started recruiting volunteers led by the secretary committee to do so.

BICSI Education Continues in South Pacific Despite COVID-19

With government restrictions on events still in place, BICSI South Pacific is unable to schedule any physical events for the remainder of 2020; but this hasn’t prevented BICSI South Pacific from providing education for its members.

Since 24 March, BICSI South Pacific has been hosting its seminars online, ensuring members have access to quality education on important industry topics. Thanks to the generosity of corporate members, R&M and Fluke Networks, BICSI South Pacific Seminars have been hosted on their webinar platforms to professionally present and record seminars every two weeks. Topics include:

  • 24 March – WLAN Technologies and Smart Cities
  • 7 April – Testing Standards and Optical Fibre Trends
  • 21 April – Technology Standards Update
  • 5 May – BICSI 2020 Winter Conference Highlights
  • 19 May – 5G Networks
  • 2 June – Smart Buildings
  • 16 June – WLAN Heat Mapping
  • 30 June – Wi-Fi 6 and ‘Data Centre Power

The speakers and presentations were originally scheduled by our local coordinators for physical seminars in their cities; however, were cancelled due to COVID-19. Since then, they have arranged for the guest speakers to deliver their presentations via webinar, rather than in person.

The program is currently scheduled to the end of Q2, but may continue into Q3, depending on when government restrictions are eased. Once permission has been granted by respective governments to hold large events, BICSI South Pacific will return to holding physical seminars and other industry events.
