In order to obtain BICSI credentials for RCDD; RITP; RTPM; Designers (ESS, NTS, OSP, WD); Installer 1; Installer 2, Copper; Installer 2, Optical Fiber or Technician, you must first pass the associated exam. Based on information contained in BICSI manuals, these knowledge- and application-based exams require significant study and preparation to pass, but it is well worth your commitment, as it gives you a significant competitive edge in the ICT industry.

In order to register for an exam, you must complete an application and submit to BICSI at least two weeks prior to the exam date.

The RCDD, RITP, DCDC, ESS, OSP and RTPM exams are now administered in a computer-based testing format at Pearson VUE Authorized Training Centers worldwide. Locations of testing centers can be found at www.pearsonvue.com/BICSI.

Pencil-and-paper examinations will be available at the Winter, Canadian and Fall BICSI Conferences.

The delivery method of Installation and Technician examinations has not changed.

 

Registered Communications Distribution Design (RCDD) Exam Information

Individuals with a minimum of five years distribution design experience, or two years distribution design experience and three years of additional equivalents, are encouraged to sit for the RCDD exam, based on content found in BICSI’s Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM). Those who pass the exam will earn the prestigious RCDD designation, which is renewable every three years based on continuing education requirements.

Attention!
The 12th edition Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM) will be used for courses taken before June 30, 2014; new exam applicants can choose to test from TDMM 12th or 13th edition through June 30, 2014. For any courses starting on or after July 1, 2014, or exam applications received after this date, the 13th edition TDMM will be used.

Registered Information Technology Professional (RITP) Exam Information

Individuals with four years of experience in the ICT industry OR educational equivalent (where the educational equivalent is recognized as a minimum of 2-year degree or a BICSI credential or other ICT industry related credential) with a minimum of two years of related experience in the ICT industry but do NOT design information and communications technology (ICT) systems or have limited design experience (e.g., instructors, educators, management and sales personnel) are encouraged to sit for the RITP exam, based on content found in BICSI’s Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM). Those who pass the exam will earn the RITP designation, which is renewable every three years based on continuing education requirements.

Registered Telecommunications Project Manager (RTPM)

Individuals with a minimum of two years of verifiable project management experience are encouraged to sit for the RTPM exam, based on content found in the  PM110: Telecommunications Project Management course. Those who successfully pass the RTPM exam will receive the RTPM certificate and will receive the RTPM credential.

Data Center Design Consultant (DCDC) Exam Information

Individuals with a minimum of two years of approved and verifiable experience in the design and/or construction of data centers are encouraged to sit for the DCDC exam, based on content found in BICSI 002-2011, Data Center Design and Implementation Best Practices and BICSI’s Network Design Reference Manual (NDRM) and Electronic Safety and Security Design Reference Manual (ESSDRM). Appropriate chapters for the NDRM and ESSDRM are available for purchase as a download as the Network Systems and Commissioning (NSC) reference. Those who pass the exam will earn the DCDC designation, which is renewable every three years based on continuing education requirements.

The examination is administered in a computer-based testing (CBT) format at Pearson VUE Authorized Training Centers worldwide. Locations of testing centers can be found at www.pearsonvue.com/BICSI.

Electronic Safety and Security (ESS) Exam Information

Individuals who have a minimum of two years of experience in electronic safety and security design and have either a current RCDD credential or successfully passed the ICT Design Fundamentals exam may sit for the ESS Design exam. The ESS exam is based on BICSI’s Electronic Safety and Security Design Reference Manual (ESSDRM), 3rd edition. Those passing the exam will become registered with the ESS Designer credential, which is renewable every three years based on continuing education requirements.

Network Technology Systems (NTS) Exam Information

The Network Technology Systems (NTS) Design exam is no longer offered.

Outside Plant (OSP) Exam Information

Individuals who have a minimum of two years of experience in outside plant and have either a current RCDD credential or successfully passed the ICT Design Fundamentals exam may sit for the OSP Design exam. The OSP exam is based on BICSI’s Outside Plant Design Reference Manual (OSPDRM). Those who pass the OSP exam will receive the OSP Designer credential, showing they possess outstanding OSP knowledge that will give them significant competitive recognition. The OSP designation is renewable every three years based on continuing education requirements.

Installer 1 Exam Information

The Installer 1 exam is the first stepping stone into BICSI's ICT Cabling Installation Program. Individuals preparing to sit for the Installer 1 exam must have eighth grade reading skills, be able to distinguish between different colors and possess manual dexterity to complete fine motor tasks. Basic electricity/physics knowledge is also recommended.

The exam is based on information taken from BICSI's Information Technology Systems Installation Methods Manual (ITSIMM). Passing the Installation 1 exam earns the student the designation of Installer 1 and is the start of a rewarding career path full of continuing advancement opportunities.

Installer 2, Copper Exam Information

Those with at least one year of current and verifiable ICT industry installation experience may register to sit for the Installer 2, Copper exam. Exam questions are based on BICSI's Information Technology Systems Installation Methods Manual (ITSIMM), 6th edition.

Upon passing the exam, the student earns the Installer 2, Copper credential and is recognized for his or her knowledge of current and emerging installation practices. This credential is renewable every three years based on proof of current installation activity, continuing education requirements and completion of the On-the-Job Training (OJT) Booklet.

The Technician exam is the final step in BICSI's ICT Cabling Installation Program. Those who wish to sit for this exam must possess at least three or more years of current and verifiable ICT industry installation experience. Additionally, the ability to distinguish between different colors and possession of manual dexterity to complete fine motor tasks is required.

The exam questions are based on BICSI's Information Technology Systems Installation Methods Manual (ITSIMM), 6th edition. Passing the exam and earning the Technician credential will set the student apart from the competition when overseeing, planning and managing installation projects. This credential is renewable every three years based on proof of current installation activity, continuing education requirements and completion of the On-the-Job Training (OJT) Booklet.
