DD102: Designing Telecommunications Distribution Systems

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Learn how to design distribution systems in this comprehensive workshop.

DD102 is an intensive, hands-on course focused on the design of structured cabling systems. Offering hands-on skill building activities from day one, this knowledge-intensive course instructs you in real-world tasks, preparing you for design roles outside of the classroom. Assignments from the award-winning Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM) augment your learning, allowing you to prepare questions for the classroom.

Through the use of case studies, schematic and construction drawings, and real-life scenarios, you will learn to design codes and standards-compliant telecommunications infrastructure, beginning where the cabling enters the building to any telecommunications environment within the building. In addition to structured cabling, all facets of design for the support infrastructure, including telecommunications spaces, pathways, bonding and grounding, and firestopping are included in the course.

DD102 has been structured to maximize your take-away from the class. Students work together to complete a final group project, allowing immediate use of new knowledge and skills learned in the classroom.

Note: The RCDD exam is not included in the course fee. You must apply and register for the exam separately. You may complete an exam application online at bicsi.org/rcdd.

Why you should attend?

RCDDs set the benchmark for the ICT industry, and DD102 is an essential course in preparing you to earn that elite designation. Learn how to build design codes and standards-compliant telecommunications infrastructure, beginning where the cabling enters the building to any telecommunications environment within the building.

What to expect?

Material Requirements

Students must bring the TDMM, print or electronic, to class. The manual (not included in the course fee) can be ordered at bicsi.org/publications.

Students are also required to bring a laptop computer or tablet to class each day.

Pre-work Recommendations

The DD102 course is designed for those who have a minimum of two years of experience in the design and specifications of cabling infrastructure systems. If you do not meet these requirements, BICSI strongly recommends that you complete the DD101:Foundations of Telecommunications Distribution Design course prior to enrolling in DD102.

Who should attend?

  • ICT designers with at least two years of on- the-job experience in low-voltage cabling systems
  • Professionals responsible for designing IP-enabled building systems (e.g., security, AV, HVAC)
  • Individuals preparing to take the RCDD exam
  • Individuals looking for a review of telecommunications distribution systems

Participants must be able to:

There are no special physical requirements for this course

What will I learn?

After this course you will have knowledge in the following areas:

Codes, standards and regulations

Telecommunications pathways and spaces

Backbone and horizontal distribution systems

Bonding and grounding (earthing)

Firestopping

Telecommunications administration

Outside Plant (OSP) and campus cabling

How long is this course?

5-days

Can I earn credit?

Earn 37 Continuing Education Credits (CECs) upon successfully completing this program.

What is the cancellation policy?

Class registration fees are refundable if a written cancellation request is received by BICSI no later than 11 business days prior to the first day of class.
