POE - Power Over Ethernet is not a brand-new technology and it had been an enabling factor for Security Cameras and WiFi Access Points for several years. But much has changed since its early days, this includes data speeds, power levels and consequently applications and in a modern office building often the only use of power outlets is the occasional connection of a vacuum cleaner. The resulting dependence on POE requires careful planning when selecting cables, path ways and bundle sizes. In this presentation Christian Schillab, EMEA Marketing Engineer for Fluke Networks will focus on the testing of newly installed cabling prior to the use for POE. There are parameters which are considered optional in the traditional acceptance test for structured cabling systems, but they are key for the most demanding POE applications. In the second part he will cover tools needed during the operational phase if for example a POE powered screen in the conference stays dark or an IP phone refuses to connect.
About the Presenter:

Christian Schillab has been working for Fluke Networks Europe since 1997, and since 1999 his role has been Marketing Engineer for the Media Test product line. As a member of German Standards DKE/GAK 715.3.2 and AK 651.2.1, he actively participates as an expert on the topics of field and component testing, and prior to that, in the Frame Relay and ATM forum. Previously, Christian worked for various North American manufacturers of Telecom Test & Measurement products, namely Spectron, NAVTEL and Nextest, in various sales, marketing and market development positions for Europe, Middle East, and Africa.
