Dear BICSI Global Members,

I feel like I say this very often, but that is good news: it is a busy time for BICSI Global! We have two events scheduled for next week—the 2nd Annual BICSI MEA ACE Summit on the 16th and the 2nd BICSI France Day on the 18th. Earlier this week, we had an engaging South Pacific Conference, and on September 28, the BICSI India District hosted a wonderful conference in Bangalore. I would like to thank all the volunteers who are working hard to make these and all of our events a success.

Speaking of upcoming events, I would like to invite you to the Japan District’s Data Center Boot Camp on 24 October (BICSI CEO John Clark will be there, too); the CALA District Puerto Rico Conference on 1 November; the Mainland Europe District Italy Conference on 8 November; the Korea Tech Day in Seoul on 20 November; the Japan District Conference in Tokyo on 22 November; and the Southeast Asia District Singapore Conference on 27-28 November. As I said before, it’s a busy time! I hope you can attend one or more of these events!

Finally, one of the most important activities coming up is our Board Strategic Planning session, which will take place in early November. This is the time where I and my fellow Board Members get together to discuss the strategy and direction of BICSI for the next year. As always, once our strategic plan is laid out, we will be sharing it with all our members.

Thank you all for your support of the BICSI Global Region—I hope to see you at a future event!

Warm regards,
Rick Ciordia, PE, RCDD, DCDC, RTPM
BICSI Global Region Director

It's the "Year of Cabling Standards" in BICSI South Pacific

BICSI South Pacific has declared 2018 as the “Year of Cabling Standards” and is actively educating the local industry about the major changes happening this year. With a number of cabling regulations and standards being introduced in 2018, ICT professionals need to be well informed of the changes to ensure their ICT design and deployments are current, accurate and fit for their intended purposes.

Many BICSI South Pacific members serve on local and international standards committees and are contributing to the next generation of ICT standards and notifying BICSI members of their details. Being released this year are AS/CA S008 cabling product standard and AS/CA S009 cabling installation standard that are both mandated as regulations in Australia; the AS/NZS 11801 suite of cabling standards that are fundamental to cabling design and deployment in Australia and New Zealand; the AS/NZS 62368-1 safety standard for ICT equipment; and the international IEEE802.3bt remote power (PoE) standard that has global impact.

All of these will affect our industry in a big way, so BICSI has arranged for subject matter experts on all of these standards to educate the industry on them. The BICSI campaign is multi-faceted and involves instructor-led training courses, as well as presentations at BICSI conferences, seminars and other industry events to provide detailed explanations on their intent and content, as well as how to accurately use them in ICT designs and deployment. The message is simple: “ICT infrastructure is an essential service that should be done right the first time, every time.”
