Otro triunfo para BICSI: 2019 BICSI Puerto Rico Conference & Exhibition

During this year’s 14th annual event, the conference officially opened with Global Region Director Rick Ciordia, RCDD, DCDC, RTPM and Eng. Wigberto Rivera Nieves, President of CIAPR, welcoming the many delegates. The technical presentations throughout the day covered a wide variety of ICT topics, including wired and wireless AV collaboration; the future of optical fiber; network infrastructure challenges; field testing cabling in industrial environments; making the most of your intelligent PDU investment; digital building infrastructure; FTTx implementation; and planning for a fiber-deep infrastructure.

Attendees at the conference were able to explore the exhibits and learn about their offerings. In addition, all present had the chance to watch sponsors give brief What’s New, What’s It Do? presentations on their latest innovations. Following the technical agenda came the closing remarks, door prize drawing and lastly, a cocktail reception.

Overall, the 14th BICSI Puerto Rico Conference & Exhibition was a success and had a 50 percent increase in attendance compared to last year. Both delegates and exhibitors expressed their delight and are looking forward to the next Puerto Rico event, which is scheduled for 5 November 2020.

BICSI Spreads ICT Knowledge in Ecuador

BICSI Day Ecuador was very eventful and packed with a lot of ICT knowledge. BICSI Ecuador Country Chair, Daniel Faour, opened the event and many presentations including topics such as hyper scale data centers, 5G, the next generation of PoE and fiber optical certification were touched upon after. A lively panel discussion also drew in attention from attendees toward the end of the event. Overall, BICSI Day Ecuador was a success and BICSI CALA is thankful to all who attended, volunteered, exhibited, sponsored, presented and contributed toward this notable event.

BICSI Makes ICT Strides in Bengaluru

With over 400 attendees, the event focused on how digital transformation is driving the wave of transition. Ninad Desai, RCDD, NTS, OSP, TECH, CT, India District Chair, opened the conference and spoke of BICSI’s strategic programs and key initiatives to drive more industry, government and academic engagement. Keynote, Deben Moza, spoke about co-working spaces, while the guest of honour, Bala Chitoor discussed the evolution of IoT within the industry.

2019 Japan District Conference & Exhibition Update:

This year’s conference focused on ICT information and transmission system technology and had a large lineup of expert speakers from various verticals. The agenda included many topics and happenings such as:

BICSI Middle East & Africa District:

BICSI EMEA Region 3rd Annual ACE Summit and GITEX Technology Week

The ACE Summit Morning Masterclass & 3rd Annual ACE Summit were successful events. The presentations delivered provided great educational content and kept the crowd engaged. The sponsors were happy as BICSI staff received feedback that the right mix of Architects, Consultants & Engineers (ACE) attended. The participation in the event was helped by promoting the events at the BICSI booth at GITEX Technology Week and through the GITEX BICSI Masterclasses. In addition to our sponsors, Intersec was a Supporting Organization and the Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management was a Supporting Association.

Paul Weintraub, RCDD, ESS, RTPM, TECH, CAE, BICSI Vice President of Global Development & Support, opened the event and provided information about upcoming events, including the EMEA Conference & Exhibition. Barry Shambrook, RCDD, MIET, MBCS, Partner for High Tech Project Management at HartDixon, conducted a three-hour Masterclass on “Converged Networks – the Future of Intelligent Buildings as defined by BICSI 007,” and real-world experiences were used throughout the Masterclass. Overall, thanks to the hard work of BICSI volunteers, supported by staff. With that, BICSI EMEA was able to deliver a week full of well-received events and spoke with attendees about BICSI memberships, training, sponsorships, standards and other BICSI products and services. In addition, new relationships were built, and older relationships were strengthened to add to a successful week.

BICSI Day South Africa

There were a lot of attendees and plenty to learn during BICSI Day South Africa as well as the FTTX Council Conference. Topics at the BICSI Day event ranged from smart cities, to ICT trends, Wi-Fi 6 and more. At the FTTX Council Conference, 5G, the fibre industry and other ICT relevant topics were explored. Overall, both events were a success and BICSI is grateful to all that attended.

BICSI Drove ICT Success at the First-Ever Saudi Tech Roadshow

BICSI EMEA successfully held its first Saudi Tech Roadshow: a series of three events in three of the major cities in Saudi Arabia. It began in Jeddah, 13 October, then Riyadh, 15 October and lastly Al Khobar, 17 October. The three events surpassed all expectations by having a combined attendance of more than 340 attendees over the course of the week. Additionally, there was a total of seven sponsors: Trident Technology Services/Panduit; SETRA/Belden; Fluke Networks; Vivanco; AT&T Cabling Systems; Siemon; AlFalak. The Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management (IWFM) was the Supporting Association.

The agendas for each of the cities were identical. The technical presentations provided 45 minutes each of outstanding content on the following topics: "Digital Ceiling Lighting and Cabling Design Challenges;" “Construction Products Regulation - Details, Comparison and Experiences;” “Will My Fiber Support the Application I Have Today? Will My Fiber Support the Application I Will Use Tomorrow?" and "Edge Data Center."

In all three cities, Dr. Taseer A. Rangrez, DBA, Ph.D., BICSI MEA Advisory Committee Chair opened the event. Overall, the entire week exceeded expectations of all participants, thanks to the hard work from BICSI volunteers and BICSI staff. The BICSI EMEA Region looks forward to returning to Saudi Arabia next year.

BICSI Mainland Europe District:

BICSI Presents 002 Standard at the Legrand Data Center Conference

The event was a huge success and the number of attendees greatly surpassed the 200 customers who were invited. Moderated by Ahmed Lahri, general manager of Prolikon Consulting, the event was publicized by many media outlets. The BICSI presentation was the key focus, thanks to the valuable knowledge it provided. The organizer then kept the same concept of vendor neutrality in his presentations, recognizing that this method gave more value to the customers.

Another BISCI Success at the EMEA Italy Conference & Exhibition

Doors opened at 8:30 a.m. and BICSI Italy’s Country Chair, Mario Vellano, RCDD, provided a BICSI overview and opened the morning’s technical sessions. Speakers covered ICT-relevant topics such as Wireless, Optical Fiber, PON LAN Networks and Multimode Cabling Infrastructure. Two live demos, which served as parallel sessions presented by Rosenberger and Spring were conducted in the morning and the afternoon session consisted of four more speakers, including Gautier Humbert, RCDD, Mainland Europe District Chair.

Presentations were delivered in English with simultaneous Italian translation and delegates from multiple nations, including Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France and the U.S. were in attendance.

Thank you to all the volunteers, presenters, sponsors, exhibitors, attendees and to everyone that made this event a success. We look forward to seeing everyone again in 2020.

It was a Great Day for BICSI in Greece

During this successful event, attendees learned about the latest trends and developments in ICT. In attendance were cabling systems manufacturers, test and structured cabling equipment suppliers, data center design and maintenance specialists, cloud service providers and more. A lot of networking took place and plenty of industry experts eagerly shared their knowledge.

The venue consisted of plenty of sunlight and a great view from within the sponsored area. Besides the location, attendees were unanimous in their decision that they would return due to the quality and variety of educational ICT content at the event. Attendees also confirmed that they would recommend the event to others.

 BICSI UK & Ireland District:

Exciting News for Lapsed UK & Ireland Credential Holders: BICSI Amnesty Program Will be Launching Soon

Following a two-year initiative, instigated by the UK & Ireland District, full details will be released soon of a scheme that will give lapsed BICSI credential holders an easier option to regain their qualification. Eligibility will be subject to a maximum lapsed period of no more than two CEC terms and demonstration of engagement in the appropriate industry for the lapsed period. Candidates will be required to attend the BICSI training course associated with the credential but will not have to retake the exam. The UK & Ireland District thanks the Registration and Credentials Supervision Committee (RCSC) for their help in developing this new policy which provides a reasonably easy way of regaining a credential whilst preserving the credibility of the BICSI qualifications.

Data Centre World Event  

With more than 18,000 data centre and technology professionals and over 400 leading solution providers, BICSI made a lasting knowledgeable impression in the minds of many. Many presentations were held and attendees from a global audience listened in. In particular, “How to Build A Green Data Center?” attracted a very large crowd. Attendees were both standing and sitting on the floor to listen to our speaker, BICSI Southeast Asia Thailand Country Chair, Assoc. Prof., Dr Montri Wiboonrat at the Energy, Efficiency, Cost Management & DCIM Theatre.

BICSI Southeast Asia District Chair, Garies Chong, RCDD, DCDC moderated a panel session with a data center (DC) builder, a DC consultant and a DC owner & operator. Their expert visions and experiences were drawn upon to share the key of design strategy. Overall, this highly successful event was the largest B2B enterprise technology and data centre event. The Southeast Asia Conference & Exhibition Brings Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Life

This grand event hosted a wide variety of exhibitors, sponsors and attendees in the SMX Convention Hall. Organized by the Structured Energy Systems Corporation (SESCO) and the Institute of Electronics Engineers Foundation Inc. (IECEP Foundation Inc), this successful event inspired and educated many.

BICSI Day Korea: Another Successful Event 

The event attracted 110 attendees, including ICT professionals, delegates from government agencies, U.S. Army Communications Engineers, U.S. Army Tech reviewers, professors, researchers, designers, engineers and contractors. In addition, the event had eight sponsors: Fluke Networks, LS Cables, Legrand, Corning, SeeEL, KWM, SAM E&T and CEIK.

Youngsoo Kim, BICSI Korea District Chair, officially opened the event by welcoming everyone and providing a BICSI overview. Then, the academic agenda began with a series of technical seminars all centering around “How ICT Infrastructure Technology Serves Future Smart Cities.” Throughout the day, attendees were able to interact with exhibitors to learn about their new products and technologies. Attendees also had the opportunity to interact with Mack Wallace, Director of Mechanical Engineering at Jacobs, who is also part of the ASHRAE Standard 90.1 Committee and SK Jang, Professor of ICT at the Polytech Institute of Korea.

The day concluded with a lively panel discussion, followed by a closing reception. Attendees and exhibitors alike were thrilled with the event and are looking forward to more events in Korea. Discussions regarding a date for the next BICSI Day Korea are already in progress.

As part of this exciting DCDC overhaul, many areas of the program were revisited and updated to stay up-to-par with the changing times.Most recently, BICSI released a revised DC101 self-paced course and Data Center Flash Cards as the newest additions to BICSI’s international DCDC Program. After an extensive search conducted by the Executive Director/CEO Search Committee (EDSC), it was announced that John H. Daniels will become the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of BICSI starting 1 January 2020. Currently serving as Global Vice President in the analytics department of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), Daniels has provided global strategic leadership to a number of initiatives with offices in Germany, Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States. Given his track record of success in building and leading collaborative teams that have driven meaningful growth and engagement for the organizations he has served, BICSI looks forward to his expertise and to welcoming him onboard.

Project RefreshBICSI World Headquarters Gets an Upgrade

Wednesday, 11 November was an eventful day at the BICSI World Headquarters in Tampa, Florida. After months of hard work and preparation, the new and improved building was unveiled during a historic ribbon-cutting event that was attended by BICSI Board Members, past presidents, students, staff, community leaders and friends of BICSI from all over the country. The construction project included substantial technological and configuration enhancements to its interior workspaces and the BICSI Learning Academy. Leading the extensive remodeling project was the Project Refresh Working Group consisting of four BICSI past presidents and two BICSI staff representatives: Ed Donelan, RCDD, NTS, ESS; Russ Oliver, RCDD, DCDC, NTS, ESS; Brian Hansen, RCDD, NTS, CSI; Brian Ensign, RCDD, NTS, OSP, RTPM, CSI; and BICSI staff representatives Vice President of Administration and CFO, Betty Eckebrecht, CAE and Director of Human Resources, Bernie Currie, SHRM-CP, PHR. BICSI Signs Memorandum of Understanding with the Facility Guidelines Institute

BICSI has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI). FGI develops the guidelines for planning, design and construction of hospitals, outpatient facilities and residential health, care and support facilities in the United States. In addition to BICSI offering support and subject matter expertise on the future of ICT in healthcare, this new alliance through the MOU allows both BICSI and FGI to benefit in the cross-promotion of BICSI Standards and FGI Guidelines.
